Biography
John Enright
John Enright was born in 1955 in Los Angeles, California. John was raised in a religious and artistic family. John developed an appreciation for the land in early life. As a boy, he hiked throughout the forests and deserts and as a teen, John worked in the Forestry Service. Entering college at 16, his passion for art grew rapidly. He studied under Vernon Nye (watercolor master) and Joseph Maniscalco (oils). By the time he was 20, John had already traveled throughout Europe, completing his four year degree and then continued advanced training at the famous Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. Then, working as an Art Director for over a decade, he honed his skills in the Advertising world with companies such as Doyle Dane Bernbach and freelancing his illustration to fortune 500 companies such as Warner Bros, Atari, Hewlett Packard, Apple Computer and Silicon Graphics. All this time, however, John yearned to paint what was in his own heart and soul, and began a new journey when he moved to the Hawaiian Islands. His dream came true as he devoted the next 15 years to highly detailed and poignant paintings of the sea.
His work was exhibited throughout the finest galleries on Oahu, Maui, Kauai and Hawaii and throughout the Pacific Rim. His studies of the ocean brought him within the realms of research with notable centers such as the World Wildlife Research Center, the Sealift Park and Hanauma Bay. The paintings that resulted celebrated the diversity and complex circle of life that binds humanity to the animal world.
For many years, John's seascape paintings of the ocean were exhibited other notable painters of the sea. He lived by the sea in the Hawaiian Islands and dedicated his entire energies to painting the world he experienced above and below the surface of the ocean.
John donated his seascape paintings to many charities including Earth Trust, a foundation formed to preserve the natural coastline and sea life of the Hawaiian Islands. Whales, Dolphins, Sea Turtles and a myriad of reef life was the focus of his paintings.
Many of John's seascapes have been licensed as Jigsaw Puzzles, Calendars, and Stationeries in the U.S. and Japan and all over the world. Although John paints numerous subjects his first love is the ocean. Seascape and marine painting is in his heart and soul.
